Greek shipowner Venergy Maritime has exercised options for two additional suezmax newbuildings at China’s Hengli Shipbuilding, as reported by Splash 247. This decision expands Venergy’s series at the Dalian yard to four vessels and contributes to a wider newbuilding programme now encompassing 30 ships.

The two 158,000 dwt tankers are attached to an earlier agreement made this year. Brokers estimate the value of this latest pair at approximately $84 million each, or $168 million combined, with delivery anticipated in 2029.

Expanding the Hengli Series

These new orders follow the 158,000 dwt V Leon and V Nikos, which Venergy contracted at Hengli in June for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2028. Splash 247 had previously reported in June that the initial Hengli contract included two firm vessels and two options. At that time, an official price was not disclosed, though brokers had indicated Chinese-built suezmaxes in the mid-to-high $80 million range.

Broad Newbuilding Portfolio

With the latest additions, Venergy’s reported firm suezmax newbuilding programme now totals eight ships spread across three Chinese yards. Alongside the four vessels at Hengli, its fleet list indicates the 158,000 dwt V Dragon and V Georgia at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, and the 157,000 dwt V Titan and V Orion at Guangzhou Shipyard International. Deliveries for these vessels are scheduled from late 2028 through 2029.

This expansion represents a notable acceleration in Venergy's fleet-building efforts. Since Vyron Vasileiadis entered shipowning independently, the company has accumulated newbuilding orders for product and crude tankers, as well as containerships, with the total estimated to be close to $2 billion, according to Splash 247.
