Offshore engineering and services provider Subsea 7 has secured an extension to its work on the Sakarya Phase 3 Black Sea gas development, offshore Turkey. The new scope, awarded by Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Centre (TP-OTC), focuses on the second floating production unit (FPU) for the development, according to Splash 247.

The additional work entails towing, mooring line installation, and connection activities, supporting the commissioning of the second FPU, which is scheduled for 2028. Subsea 7 will oversee project management and engineering operations from its Istanbul office, with work commencing immediately. While precise financial details of the extension were not disclosed, Subsea 7 characterised it as sizeable, placing its value within the range of $50 million to $150 million.

Sakarya Field Development

The Sakarya field is a significant natural gas project in the Turkish Black Sea. The extended contract underscores the ongoing development phases of this project. The first FPU for the Sakarya field, named the *Osman Gazi*, is reportedly facing a revised deployment schedule.

Turkish authorities previously indicated that the departure of the *Osman Gazi* from Filyos Port had been postponed to late October. Despite this delay, the platform is expected to arrive at the Sakarya field in time for the initiation of gas flaring before the end of 2026, Splash 247 reported.

Future Production Outlook

The installation of the second FPU in 2028 is projected to substantially increase the field’s production capacity. Upon its operational launch, the Sakarya field's output is expected to reach 45 million cubic metres per day. This volume is estimated to be sufficient to supply approximately 17 million households.

Subsea 7's continued involvement highlights its role in the development of Turkey's offshore gas infrastructure. The Sakarya project represents a strategic energy initiative for Turkey, aiming to enhance the nation's domestic gas supply.
