Alkagesta Becomes Corporate Member of IBIA
Membership of the International Bunker Industry Association follows a year in which the trader began ULSFO supply in the Mediterranean and secured storage in Singapore.

Alkagesta has become a corporate member of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), a step the Malta-based commodity and energy trading house describes as a milestone in its development as a marine fuels supplier.
Founded in 2018, Alkagesta operates across 17 offices and representations worldwide, is active in more than 42 countries and manages multi-million-tonne flows of petroleum products, fertilisers and biofuels. Membership of IBIA gives it a formal seat in the industry body where bunker quality standards, contractual practice and regulatory response are debated.
A year of marine expansion
The membership follows a sequence of moves into the marine sector. During 2025 the company began supplying 0.1% ultra-low sulphur fuel oil across the Central and Eastern Mediterranean in line with the IMO's Mediterranean emission control area requirements, which took effect in May 2025. It also secured storage capacity at the Horizon terminal in Singapore, underpinning its expansion into Asian marine markets.
"IBIA is more than a membership — it's a platform for shaping the future of marine energy," said Mithat Ciftcioglu, Alkagesta's Marine Distribution Director. "We see this as an opportunity to contribute our expertise in structured trade and logistics, while learning from others who are equally committed to innovation."
Positioning for the transition
The company said membership aligns with its ambitions in the Asia-Pacific region for marine fuels and marine gasoil, and provides access to a community of marine energy professionals, regulators and suppliers. As the industry moves towards biofuels, LNG and alternative energy solutions, Alkagesta intends to contribute expertise in structured commodity finance and supply chain management to discussions on sustainable fuel distribution and risk management.
For a trading house that entered marine fuels comparatively recently, association membership is partly a credibility exercise and partly practical: bunker disputes, sampling standards and the treatment of biofuel blends are all shaped in forums of this kind, and suppliers outside them tend to inherit rules they had no hand in writing.
