Alkagesta Asia is running at roughly 200,000 metric tonnes of bunker sales a month in Singapore, little more than a year after the entity was established, according to Marine Distribution Director Mithat Ciftcioglu in an exchange published by Bunker Market.

The Singapore company was set up in late 2024 as a structured extension of the group's global platform rather than a speculative land grab. Ciftcioglu describes integration as immediate: from the first day the office operated inside the group's centralised risk management, compliance and operational control systems, with growth deliberately paced to match infrastructure and financing rather than headline ambition.

Physical control first

The decisive step was storage. By mid-2025 the company had secured capacity at Horizon Terminal, allowing it to handle and distribute marine fuels physically instead of depending wholly on third-party arrangements. That gave direct control over quality, inventory and delivery timing — the three variables that decide whether a supplier is trusted in a port where thousands of stems compete for barge slots.

Low sulphur marine gas oil was introduced in November 2025 at initial volumes of 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes a month. By January 2026 total monthly sales had reached about 200,000 tonnes, comprising roughly 160,000 to 170,000 tonnes of VLSFO with the balance in LSMGO and other grades.

Finance and governance

Behind the volumes sits a trade finance facility with ING Singapore, while at group level Alkagesta maintains relationships with 28 international banks and an aggregate commodity trade finance platform of about USD 1.2 billion. Ciftcioglu is emphatic that Singapore applies the same governance and sanctions compliance standards as every other hub, with structured investigation processes and full transaction documentation.

Outlook

Singapore sold approximately 56.8 million tonnes of marine fuel in 2025, and demand fundamentals are expected to remain supportive through 2026 on the back of resilient seaborne trade. Alkagesta Asia is preparing to introduce biofuel blends in line with the group's sustainable fuels roadmap, applying the same emphasis on compliance and traceability it uses for conventional grades. The stated objective is unglamorous by design: long-term partnerships built on consistency rather than volume records.
