Alkagesta Opens Geneva Biofuels Trading Desk
The new desk places the trading house inside Switzerland's commodity ecosystem as Europe's biofuels market heads towards an estimated USD 59 billion by 2030.

Alkagesta has opened a biofuels trading desk in Geneva, strengthening its European presence and tying its energy transition activity to one of the world's oldest commodity trading centres.
Europe continues to shift from fossil fuels towards renewable and low-carbon alternatives. According to Grand View Research, the European biofuels market is expected to approach USD 59 billion by 2030, growing at an average annual rate of about 11%. Capturing that growth requires more than access to product; it requires the surrounding apparatus of trade finance, legal expertise, risk management, insurance and logistics services.
Why Geneva
Few places concentrate that apparatus as densely as Geneva. The city has hosted international commodity trading for generations, and its ecosystem allows a mid-sized house to access services that would otherwise be built in-house at considerable expense.
"We are proud to take our place in Geneva's long tradition of trading excellence," said Orkhan Rustamov, Alkagesta's chief executive. "Our aim is to play a constructive role in the transition towards cleaner fuels, working alongside the Swiss ecosystem."
How the desk operates
The Geneva desk works in close coordination with the group's existing sourcing, storage and compliance functions, applying standards aligned with European Union requirements. It also draws on Alkagesta's international banking relationships to finance flows that frequently involve small, dispersed feedstock suppliers and long documentation chains.
Since its founding in 2018 the group has built partnerships with 28 international banks, expanded into 42 countries and facilitated annual trade flows of more than seven million tonnes of commodities, supported by an extensive logistics network.
The Geneva launch was followed within days by Alkagesta joining Suissenégoce, Switzerland's leading trading association — a signal that the company intends to participate in the local market's institutions rather than simply rent its infrastructure.
